Wintersteiger supports USSA and The Center of Excellence
PARK CITY, UT (July 29) – Wintersteiger has announced its sponsorship as a supplier to The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's Center of Excellence equipment tuning room, and was on hand for the grand opening dedication.
It’s that time of the year
Now that the season is over and your rental fleet is tuned up ready for next year, it's time to give your equipment that long over do cleaning. I know you’ve kept everything fairly clean during the season, but now it time to get in there and really get them cleaned up.
A few pointers before we begin
Make sure you have your summer service scheduled, if not call the service department at 866.590.8977.
Get a large bucket and a few scrub brushes, one that will reach those hard to clean areas as well.
Serviceability
Always check the edges and base thickness when taking equipment in, make sure there is enough material left to tune. New edge material is generally between 1.5 to 1.8 mm; if there is less than 1.0 mm, tune with caution. Also look for discoloration in the base, usually in the tip and tail area. Make sure to advise the customer if any problems are seen and what could happen if you tune through the base material. If the ski/board looks like it is worn out, suggest they walk over to the new ski/board wall.
Review the condition of equipment with the customer
I’ve been in too many shops that fail to capitalize on showing their level of expertise to their customer by the way they take equipment in for service. Don’t let just anyone in the shop take equipment in, they should be well versed in what services are offered and the benefits of each service. They also need to know what questions need to be asked and how to inspect the equipment. Here are some ideas to get you started in the right direction
Ask questions!!
How are they working for you?
What problems have you had?
When was the last time the equipment tuned or bindings calibrated?
Homemade Polishing Solution
Want to save a few bucks on over priced polishing solutions? Simple, next time you make a fresh batch of grinding solution for your
grinding machine pour some in a small resealable bottle and use as needed. Simply pour some out in a small tray, cup, or even a
spray bottle and use on your diamond and polishing stones. Helps keep them clean and lubricated and it’s no secret that the grinding
solution for you machine is designed for this same application as well. We recommend our biodegradable emulsion (57-202-610) for
best results which does not contain harmful petroleum products.
Grinding Fluid Disposal
With the ever more awareness of our lasting effect on our planet, it is imperative that used grinding fluid is disposed of properly. Depending on the type of emulsion used and
the area in which you live the method of disposal varies. One fact still remains; it is not an acceptable practice to just dump it out the back door. In some areas of the country,
depending on your local water municipality, the disposal of the biodegradable emulsion may be as easy as separating the solids out and diluting the mixture further with fresh
